Battle Acre Park

News Release: Battle Acre Park is a small park that commemorates the Battle of North Point on Sept. 12, 1814. Located in Baltimore County, MD, the park was dedicated in 1839 to honor the Maryland militia who fought against the British army. The battle occurred at the same time as the Battle of Fort McHenry and the victories of the Maryland militia forced the British to withdraw from the Chesapeake Bay for the remainder of the War of 1812.


Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church

News Release: Nestled in the shadows of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Shops, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church was constructed in 1914 and today is a pillar of Topeka’s Hispanic, Roman-Catholic community. Our Lady of Guadalupe has held a Fiesta Mexicana, a celebration of Mexico’s culture, annually since 1933.


Juneteenth Freedom Festival offered on Sunday, June 11

News Release: Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site will host its first Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Sunday, June 11, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in cooperation with the Black History Collective of Henderson County. The event will be held at the amphitheater and feature poetry, music, and art demonstrations. A shuttle will transport people from the Main parking lot to the amphitheater, which has bench seating. Visitors are also welcome to bring lawn chairs.

Moores Creek National Battlefield to Hold Community Day Event

News Release: Park staff and volunteers invite visitors to spend the day at the park experiencing all that the park has to offer. Families are invited to bring their fishing poles to fish in the park’s fish camp area, enjoy a picnic at one of the park’s picnic areas, view a local art show, which will be highlighted by a call for art for a new exhibit, and hike park trails.


Concord Point Lighthouse

News Release: The Concord Point Lighthouse, located in Havre de Grace, Maryland, sits adjacent to the mouth of the Susquehanna River where it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Constructed in 1827, Concord Point Lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse in Maryland and was an aid for navigation for 148 years.


Bladensburg Waterfront Park

News Release: Bladensburg Waterfront Park, located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, runs along the Anacostia River, one of the most historic waterways in America. The urban waterfront features a paved riverside walk, picnic pavilion, fishing pier, playgrounds and more.
