Annual campfire restrictions to start on BLM rivers in Central Oregon

News Release: Prineville, Ore. - Annual campfire restrictions will go into effect June 1, 2023, on portions of the Crooked, Deschutes, John Day and White Rivers, as well as on BLM-administered lands along Lake Billy Chinook and Lake Simtustus.


Yuma Desalting Plant to conduct test of the Chemical Release Alarm System

News Release: Yuma, AZ - On June 1, 2023, the Bureau of Reclamation's Yuma Desalting Plant (YDP), located at 7301 Calle Agua Salada, will conduct a test of its Chemical Release Alarm System. The test will be conducted to verify that the plant’s emergency readiness system is fully operational to support evacuation and safety procedures in the event the facility experiences an incidental chemical release.


Picnic in the Preserve

News Release: Gather your favorite charcuterie, curate a playlist, and head into the preserve. A picnic shelter is located next to the Visitor Center at Fort Caroline. Picnic tables are also available at Kingsley Plantation, Cedar Point and Theodore Roosevelt Area sites. We ask that you do not bring food into the historic buildings and that all trash is properly disposed of in trash cans available at each site. As with all picnicking, watch out for ants, specifically fire ants.


Channel Islands National Park announces summer updates on reopening Santa Barbara Island for public visitation and extending San Miguel Island closure

News Release: Channel Islands National Park is pleased to announce the reopening of Santa Barbara Island to public visitation. The closure to San Miguel Island will continue through the summer as repairs to Nidever Canyon trail are still underway. Access to Cuyler Harbor in San Miguel Island will remain open to the public.


Planned Prescribed Fire at Mineral Headquarters Area

News Release: Lassen Volcanic National Park’s fire management staff plan to initiate a 30-acre prescribed fire project in the Mineral Headquarters area in late May/early June, depending on weather conditions. Ignition is expected to occur over a cumulative 1 to 3-day period with residual burn down predicted for up to one week after final ignition operations. The fire will be regularly staffed and monitored until it is declared out.
