Two Separate Incidents Occurred in Rocky Mountain National Park this Weekend

News Release: On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12, a 21-year-old female from Severance, Colorado died after an approximate 300-foot fall. A 25-year-old male from San Angelo, Texas also fell approximately 300 feet and suffered critical injuries. The two individuals fell while descending in the Flying Dutchman couloir. This couloir is located inside Rocky Mountain National Park between Longs Peak and Mount Meeker.


Tractor trailer fire prevented by park rangers

News Release: DEATH VALLEY, Calif. - A tractor trailer’s brakes caught on fire-twice-while descending CA-190 eastbound from Towne Pass on August 10 in the evening. The truck was saved from a complete loss to fire by a report from an off-duty National Park Service (NPS) employee and the response by Death Valley National Park’s rangers with a fire engine.

Hiker falls from Teewinot resulting in fatality

News Release: MOOSE, WY - Park rangers responded before dawn on Friday, Aug. 11, to a report of a hiker who fell off the west side of Teewinot, part of the Teton Range, inside Grand Teton National Park. Rangers found Joy Cho of Simi Valley, California, had succumbed to significant injuries during the fall and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Recovery Efforts have been Completed in Rocky Mountain National Park for the Body of a 21-Year-Old Female who Took a 300-Foot Fall on the Flying Dutchman Couloir

News Release: On the morning of Monday, Aug. 14, recovery efforts were completed in the Flying Dutchman couloir for the body of a 21-year-old female from Severance, Colorado. Park rangers requested assistance from a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control helicopter and helitack crew. Her body was flown to Upper Beaver Meadows and then transferred to Boulder County Coroner's Office.
