The US Interior Department published a three page rule on Aug. 11, according to the U.S. Government Publishing Office.


Garden Bowl

Carmen Thomson selected as Canaveral National Seashore superintendent

News Release: ATLANTA - The National Park Service (NPS) announced today the selection of Carmen Thomson as the new superintendent of Canaveral National Seashore located on the east coast of Florida between Titusville and New Smyrna Beach. Thomson begins her new assignment on Sept. 10.

Wild Horses, Burros, and Trainers to Compete in 90-day Challenge

News Release: Rock Springs, Wyo. - On Aug. 18, mustangs, burros, and their trainers will show off the progress they’ve made in 90 days at the Wyoming Trainer Incentive Program (TIP) Challenge. The annual event is cooperatively organized by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Wyoming Mustang Association. The TIP Challenge will start at 8 a.m. in the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, Wyoming.


BLM temporarily restricts roads, trails in the Mesa Chijuilla Area for ‘Oh My God 100’ off-road racing event

News Release: ALBUQUERQUE, NM - On Aug. 18-20, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rio Puerco Field Office will temporarily restrict access to roads and trails on the eastern portion of Mesa Chijuilla located east of Cuba, N.M, for the OMG 100 dirt bike race. Portions of Chijuilla and Windmill roads will be temporarily closed.

Portion of Clear Creek Fire is in the North Denali Border

News Release: Denali Park, AK -The Clear Creek Fire (Fire #277) was identified on August 5, 2023, and is 52,673 acres in size and currently in "monitor status." Approximately 1,000 acres of the fire are in the northern boundary of Denali National Park and Preserve along the Toklat River to the east and in some rocky ridges with low fuel to the west. The fire is not expected to grow based on current weather conditions and fire behavior.


Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site reopens

News Release: KAWAIHAE, Hawaiʻi - Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site in North Kohala reopened to the public Friday, August 11 following damaging winds and a close call with wildfires that firefighters prevented from entering the park.


West Nile Virus Detected at the William Floyd Estate

News Release: Patchogue, NY - Fire Island National Seashore (Seashore) announced today that West Nile Virus (WNV) has been detected in a mosquito sample from the William Floyd Estate. The mosquitoes were collected on July 25th from a trap set by the Seashore as part of its Mosquito Monitoring Program. This program is a collaborative effort between the Seashore and Suffolk County Department of Health Services - Arthropod-Borne Disease Laboratory.


Mammoth Cave National Park Seeks Information on Vandalism at Historic Joppa Missionary Baptist Church
