Camel Tracks Fire currently under investigation

News Release: SANTA FE, N.M. - The 63-acre Camel Tracks Fire on the Caja del Rio has been contained. It is currently under investigation by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Although fully contained, there are still hot spots burning within the fire perimeter, so residents may still see smoke.

The Bureau of Land Management concludes the FY2023 Antelope Complex-North Wild Horse Gather

News Release: ELKO, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management concluded the FY2023 Antelope Complex-North wild horse gather near Wells, Nev., on Aug. 20, 2023. The BLM gathered 1,971 wild horses, removed 1,936 wild horses from public lands. In addition, six wild horses were released, four wild horses succumbed due to gather related injuries and 25 wild horses were humanely euthanized due to pre-existing or chronic issues.

BLM seeks comments on plan for regular fee increases at four campgrounds in Gunnison Field Office

News Release: GUNNISON, Colorado. - The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments through September 21 on a draft business plan to allow for regular fee increases at four Gunnison Field Office campgrounds located in Gunnison and Hinsdale counties, CO. The proposed fee increases are based on a fair market analysis of fees charged at comparable public and private campgrounds in the Crested Butte and Lake City areas and at nearby U.S. Forest Service campgrounds.


BLM announces new grants to support wild horse and burro initiatives in Colorado, Oregon and Utah

That spending supported 1,540 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $155 million.


Recent Study Shows Cape Lookout National Seashore’s Sustained Economic Benefit to Local Communities

News Release: HARKERS ISLAND, NC - A new National Park Service report shows that 542,000 visitors to Cape Lookout National Seashore in 2022 spent $26,800,000 in communities near the park. The spending supported 343 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $29,600,000.

At remote locations, with infrequent access and limited data, understanding the relative importance of these factors can be tricky.


Path of the Flood Hike, Part II

News Release: The second half of the Path of the Flood hike will be held on Sunday, August 27 at 10:00 am. This hike starts at Franklin and ends at the Stone Bridge. Distance is 4-5 miles in length over flat terrain. Reservations are required. There is limited space due to shuttling. Reservations can be made by calling the Visitor Center at 814-886-6171.

Fire Island National Seashore Tower Facade Repair

News Release: Patchogue, NY - Fire Island National Seashore announces the next phase of the Lighthouse Tower Façade repair. On Wednesday, August 23rd, contractors will begin the stabilization portion to the lighthouse tower facade. Lee Construction, Inc was awarded the stabilization contract to wrap the lower white day marker with a steel cable mesh system.
