Shriner Peak Fire Lookout

News Release: Built in 1932, the Shriner Peak Fire Lookout is a historic structure located within the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District. One of four lookouts remaining in the park, it helped protect the park and surrounding national forests from fire.


Hike Rampart Ridge

NPS crews search Delaware River for missing swimmer

News Release: BUSHKILL, PA- National Park Service rangers and Search and Rescue Team members from Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River are engaged in a search for a missing swimmer who was reported to be struggling in the water while swimming in the Delaware River at Karamac at around 8 pm on Thursday evening. Karamac is located on the New Jersey side of the park, about a mile north of Interstate 80.

The view from the top offers commanding views of Mount Rainier, Ohanapecosh Valley, and the Cascade Range. Illegal burro killings discovered in Death Valley National Park

Rainbow Fire is Called Out

News Release: The Rainbow Fire is now out following a strong initial attack and continued work by North Cascades, Missoula, and Redmond smokejumpers. Helicopter and Fire Boss plane support included approximately 105,000 gallons of water over two days. The Boulder Creek Trail and Hooter, Rennie, and Reynolds Hiker and Stock camps are now open.
