Fire Managers Increase Fire Danger Level and IFPL

News Release: Klamath Falls, OR ⎯ Beginning Friday, July 28, 2023, at 12:01 a.m., the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District, Fremont-Winema National Forest, Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex, and all private, county, and state wildlands protected by the Klamath-Lake District, Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) will be raising the Fire Danger Level to EXTREME.


Yellowstone National Park to host the Lighting of Teepees Aug. 1-7

News Release: MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY - Yellowstone National Park is honored to host for a second year the Lighting of Teepees, a collaborative effort with Pretty Shield Foundation and Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council. National Park Service awards over $2 million to protect 238 acres at seven Civil War battlefields

News Release: WASHINGTON - The National Park Service (NPS) awarded $2,218,056 in Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants through the American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) today to protect 238 acres, including seven battlefields in Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia.

BLM Bishop Field Office expands seasonal fire restrictions

News Release: BISHOP, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management announces fire restrictions are effective Monday July 31, for all public lands managed by the Bishop Field Office. The expanded seasonal restrictions are necessary due to increasing dry conditions and wildland fire danger. These restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, issued on April 28, 2020. This seasonal fire order will remain in effect until further notice.

Arrest made in fatal 17th Street NW hit-and-run crash

News Release: WASHINGTON - The United States Park Police (USPP) arrested the driver involved in the fatal July 12 hit-and-run crash that occurred at the intersection of 17th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW. Benjamin Robertson, 33, of Washington, D.C., was charged with Second Degree Murder and arrested on July 27.


Reclamation announces support for fire restrictions issued for Arizona, Southern Nevada, and Southern California

News Release: Boulder City, Nev. - Due to increasingly high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation, the Bureau of Reclamation is immediately implementing fire restrictions to help reduce the risk of wildfires on lands it manages or maintains in Arizona, Clark County in Southern Nevada, and Imperial and Riverside counties in California. The restrictions support Bureau of Land Management fire restrictions issued by the agency in June 2023.


Access: Sand Beach

News Release: Sand Beach, located on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island in Newport Cove, is the largest sandy beach found in Acadia. It is protected by cliffs on the west and the arm of Great Head to the east. Behind the beachfront are sand dunes and a wetland area, which are off limits to visitors to protect fragile ecosystems. This destination is particularly popular with Acadia visitors, and the parking area frequently fills by 9 am in the peak season.


Fire crews mopping up small fire in Wind Cave National Park

News Release: Fire crews are mopping up a lightning-caused fire in the central section of Wind Cave National Park. The fire was reported at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, and crews were immediately dispatched to begin suppression efforts.
