National Park Service director visits the National Parks of Boston during National Park Week

In celebration of National Park Week, National Park Service Director Chuck Sams made his first official visit to the National Parks of Boston from April 25-26. Earlier in the week, he toured additional national parks in the greater Boston area, including Cape Cod National Seashore, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, and Minute Man National Historical Park.


Catoctin Mountain Park welcomes latest Artist in Residence

Photography. Writing. Painting. Weaving. The national parks have inspired creativity since the late 19th century. Catoctin Mountain Park is one of 50 national parks that host an artist in residence program. From May 8 – 12, 2023 the 32nd artist in residence, Jeffrey Lockwood from Laramie, Wyoming will be in the park.


Park rangers warn about interacting with wildlife

Park rangers are reminding the public not to touch, handle, or feed wildlife. Two recent incidents Death Valley National Park show the risks to human and wildlife from these interactions: a woman was bitten by a bat with rabies and a coyote was struck by a car.

News Release: In 1912, Olmsted Brothers were contacted by the University of Pennsylvania, who requested that they collaborate with architect Paul Philippe Cret to create a plan for the campus as it grew in student population. With both teams agreeing to the partnership, one year later they had created their preliminary report. To avoid the danger and noise caused by traffic in bustling Philadelphia, they proposed an elevated subway line.


Rogue River Ranch seeking Artist-In-Residence Applications

News Release: Medford Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management is seeking applicants for an Artist-in-Residence program at the Rogue River Ranch. Selected artists receive a one to two-week residency at the historic ranch between June and August. Artists will create while immersed in a beautiful environment and share their works with the public. All artists are encouraged to apply, and there is no preference given to any particular style or medium.

News Release: Join a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Heron Rookery on Sunday, May 14, for two Mother’s Day Wildflower hikes to enjoy the spring’s woodland blooms. There will be two hikes: the first from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and the second from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. The Heron Rookery is one of the best locations in the region for spring wildflowers.
