News Release: Philadelphia - A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 2.7 million visitors to Independence National Historical Park in 2022 spent $178 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 2.4 thousand jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $282 million.

Hurricane Ridge Road will reopen following recent fire activity

News Release: Port Angeles, Wash. - Fire suppression efforts, aided by recent rain and cooler weather, will allow the park to reopen the Hurricane Ridge Road and Obstruction Point Road to all traffic on Saturday, September 2. The fire grew an acre overnight but continues to smolder and remain manageable. However, if dry conditions persist or fire activity increases, the area may need to be closed again to support fire suppression efforts.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore temporarily closes stretch of beach after conducting post-storm assessments

News Release: MANTEO, N.C. - Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) this afternoon temporarily closed a stretch of beach between the Buxton Beach Access and the area of the Buxton jetties. Seashore staff implemented the closure after substantial post-storm beach erosion was observed and reports of a strong smell of fuel were received from visitors.

Motor Vehicles Temporarily Restricted from Petersburg National Battlefield’s Eastern Front Unit Tour Road Due to Sink Hole

News Release: A sinkhole has developed near tour stop 4 of Petersburg National Battlefield’s Eastern Front Unit tour road. For safety reasons, motorized vehicles are restricted from entering the road. Park staff are working to implement emergency repairs, and a larger repair and paving project is planned for the area in 2024. The road is anticipated to be closed to vehicles for 2-3 weeks until emergency repairs can be completed safely.
