Guided Hikes offered at National Park’s Miller Woods

News Release: Join a ranger for a hike through Indiana Dunes National Park’s exceptional Miller Woods every Sunday in July from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, starting at the Paul H. Douglas Center. The hike follows the Paul H. Douglas Trail and showcases various habitats, including globally rare black oak savanna, interdunal ponds, wetlands, and towering sand dunes that offer incredible views of Lake Michigan and Chicago. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.


Elk Neck State Park

News Release: Elk Neck State Park is a 2,370-acre park that stands on a peninsula surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Elk River to the east. Located in Cecil County, Maryland, the park is divided into four distinct areas with varied habitats and recreational opportunities. The Turkey Point Lighthouse Area stands at the southern tip of the peninsula and is home to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, a unique lighthouse that was run by four female keepers between 1844 and 1948.

The varied habitats of this 2,285-acre island, including brackish tidal marsh, forest, cropland, grassland, and open water impoundments, provide a home for a variety of wildlife species.

Look Rock Tower closed July 10 to July 15 for radio system upgrade

News Release: GATLINBURG, Tenn.- Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials announced that the observation tower and access trail at Look Rock, located on the Foothills Parkway, will be closed to visitors from Monday, July 10 to Saturday, July 15, weather depending. The closure is needed for the installation of a new microwave antenna and associated equipment as part of a radio system upgrade that will improve radio communications across the park.


Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest to implement campfire restrictions starting July 9th

News Release: Due to the combination of increased dry conditions and rising temperatures, the Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park are implementing fire restrictions that will only allow campfires in established fire rings in designated areas. Restrictions will be effective at midnight July 9th, 2023.
