News Release: SANTA FE, N.M. - The 63-acre Camel Tracks Fire on the Caja del Rio has been contained. It is currently under investigation by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Although fully contained, there are still hot spots burning within the fire perimeter, so residents may still see smoke.

Releases from Parker and Davis Dams temporarily reduced

News Release: Boulder City, Nev. - Due to recent rain storms and in anticipation of additional storms in southern California and Arizona, the Bureau of Reclamation is reducing water releases from Davis and Parker dams on the lower Colorado River. The reduced releases at both dams is expected to continue through the weekend, possibly through Wednesday, Aug. 23.

News Release: BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials are announcing a complete closure of the park to recreational use effective today at 5 pm. This closure order is expected to remain in effect through at least Monday, and conditions at the park will be assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure proper measures are taken to ensure safe operations moving forward.

Black bear obtains human food along park lakeshore

News Release: MOOSE, WY - On Aug. 11, a black bear at Phelps Lake in Grand Teton National Park found an unattended backpack and consumed human food. This follows three other recent incidents of black bears accessing human items left along lakeshores while visitors were recreating in the water. In the last five years, almost half of all human-black bear conflicts within Grand Teton have occurred around lakes.

MANZANAR SITE CLOSED TO VISITORS AUGUST 20, 2023

News Release: Manzanar National Historic Site (NHS) will be closed to visitors this Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, due to potential flood impacts from Hurricane Hilary. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding are in the forecast for the vicinity of Manzanar NHS.

Closure of Joshua Tree National Park in response to Hurricane Hilary 

News Release: Due to Tropical Storm Hilary, the park is expected to receive sever rainfall and flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Joshua Tree National Park Starting August 19th at 11 am until August 21st at 5 pm. Park management is monitoring the current condition of the storm closely. For employee and visitor safety, park management is initiating a closure of the park over the next 36 hours.

Bureau of Land Management Taos, Farmington rescind fire restrictions

News Release: FARMINGTON, N.M. - With increasing precipitation and higher humidity, resulting in reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management is rescinding fire restrictions in San Juan, Rio Arriba, Taos, Colfax, Union, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Mora, Harding and San Miguel counties, as well as portions of public land in McKinley and Sandoval counties. Effective Aug. 18 at 8 a.m., this action rescinds Fire Prevention Order # NMF00000-23-01.
